Have you ever felt weighed down by tomorrow’s worries while trying to juggle today? I was there recently.
I pulled into the garage, the hum of the engine fading as I rested my head against the cool steering wheel. It had been a long day, filled with prayer and worry over ministry needs that felt too big for me. As I sat there in silence, God gently placed this truth on my heart: “You don’t need tomorrow’s resources today. I’ll equip you with all you need, but only when you need it. I want you close and dependent on Me.”
Those words brought me instant peace. Later that night, I opened my Bible to Matthew 6, where Jesus teaches His disciples to pray:
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread…” (Matthew 6:9-11)
I couldn’t move past, “give us this day our daily bread”. It’s easy to gloss over that prayer when our fridges are full and our pantries overflow. But I realized that while I might not have to worry about food each day, I still need the Lord, in so many other ways.
The truth is, when we stop depending on God daily, we start depending on ourselves—and that never works. Jesus taught us to pray daily because He knows we need to be reminded to rely on Him, not just when we’re in desperate need, but every single day.
So, what is your “daily bread” today? What need are you holding onto, trying to meet on your own? Take a moment and share that with your Heavenly Father. You can trust Him to provide because He loves you deeply, and He’s always faithful.
Good Word, Pastor Rouse! The Lord is timely as I reminisce between your writing and Our Daily Bread devotional on Patience. Blessings!
